Your Guide To Overcoming Set-Backs

Feeling frustrated with your workout due to a set-back? Set backs are all part of the fitness game and for many people, a set-back can take them out of the game altogether. Those who are experiencing set-backs on a regular basis may find that after each one occurs, it becomes harder and harder to climb back out on top.

Whether this set-back is due to an injury that you faced or simply not seeing results, there are things that you can do to help get past it.

Let’s take a closer look at what to consider so that should you find yourself in this position, you know how to move ahead.

Look At The Lesson Learned

The very first thing that you’ll want to do is to take a look at the lesson that you’ve learned from whatever the set-back happens to be. For instance, if you are struggling with an injury, you may be feeling very frustrated at this fact, but look at why the injury occurred in the first place. And, what might you do to prevent it from occurring again?

Use that information to help you grow into the future so that you don’t make the same mistake twice. By looking at the lessons that you stand to learn, you will view that set-back less as a negative, and more as a positive learning experience. If all you see is negative, it’s not surprising you won’t be feeling very well.

Find A Mentor

It’s also important to consider finding a mentor. This mentor could be someone who you look up to – whether it’s just another fit person you know or perhaps a trainer or coach that you look up to.

If you can, reach out to that person. Explain your frustration to them and have them offer you some insight. Sometimes getting some encouraging words from other people does just the trick to help you start feeling better about yourself again.

This person may even tell you about some of the hard times they faced and how they overcame them. Sometimes just knowing that other people also go through challenging moments can be enough to get you feeling more positive again.

Set Some New Goals

Goal setting is another excellent trick that you can use to help overcome set-backs. Perhaps the goal you had set is more long term and ambitious (i.e. finishing a marathon). Set shorter term goals, such as running 10 minutes straight without stopping, which then helps boost confidence and morale!

Find A Challenge

You might also consider finding yourself a new challenge of sorts. Think about the 100 push-ups challenge. By having a pre-planned program that walks you through what you need to do, you can gain the confidence that you can reach goals that you set your mind to.

Find a challenge that you feel excited about and will look forward to working towards each and every day. Then, as soon as you’ve achieved success with one challenge, you’ll want to choose another challenge to immediately begin working towards to continue to build up your self-confidence.

Look At The Positives

Finally, don’t forget to look at the positive efforts you are making. When faced with a set-back, it can be easy to get down on all the things that seem to be going wrong and what you are not doing right. Do your best to identify what you have accomplished so far, and appreciate those achievements. Slow progress IS progress!

Getting out of that negative frame of mind can be incredibly challenging, but with the right attitude, you can certainly get to where you want to be. It will just take a bit of effort and reframing on your part.

So there you have some fast tips to help overcome set-backs. There’s no question that frustrating times can be hard to deal with, but if you come up with a solid game plan to help see past those times, they don’t need to drag you down.
